Ballet Chicago Recommends The Hamburg Ballet: Nijinsky

NIJINSKY Ballett von John Neumeier
Harris Theater Presents: Hamburg Ballet
February 1 & 2, 2013 at 7:30pm
The awe-inspiring Hamburg Ballet – considered one of the world’s greatest companies – makes its Chicago debut at the Harris Theater, presenting the Chicago premiere of Nijinsky, by acclaimed American ballet dancer, choreographer and dancer John Neumeier.
Nijinsky begins in a reconstruction of the “Festsaal” in the Suvretta-Haus, a hotel in St-Moritz, the room of Nijinsky’s last performance as a dancer: It is a moment of transition, a place of memory and premonition. Neumeier interweaves this historic situation with flashbacks to events in Nijinsky’s past and personal experiences, as well as his most important roles as a dancer, such as Le Spectre de la Rose, Pertrushka and the Golden Slave. The score for Nijinsky includes music by Chopin as well as Rimsky-Korsakov’s haunting “Scheherazade.”
Tickets start at $30
