Ballet Chicago’s The NutcrackerKicks Off the Holiday Season!
Ballet Chicago celebrates its 25th Anniversary Season with its annual presentation of the holiday classic, The Nutcracker, at the Athenaeum Theatre in Chicago on December 15-16 and December 21-23. This beloved ballet tells the story of young Marie who receives a magical Nutcracker doll on Christmas Eve that comes to life and saves her from the evil Mouse King. Marie then embarks on an amazing journey to the breathtaking Land of the Snow and the enchanted Kingdom of the Sweets.
Ballet Chicago’s 2012 production of The Nutcracker features over 100 performers and a world-class line-up of guest artists including Ballet Chicago alumni Ellen Green (formerly of the Royal Danish Ballet) and Ted Seymour (Suzanne Farrell Ballet Company). Simone Messmer, soloist with American Ballet Theatre and Garrett Anderson of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and former soloist with San Francisco Ballet will also perform leading roles. The production features charming sets and costumes to match the lively choreography of Artistic Director Daniel Duell and Associate Artistic Director Patricia Blair. A special production highlight is George Balanchine’s stunning Act II Sugar Plum Pas de Deux, one of the pinnacle dance pieces in American ballet repertoire.
