Ballet News | Beauty & the Ballet
Today I’m bringing you the hottest make-up trends with literally just a few days to spare until one of them hits the shops. You may be off to the ballet morning, noon & night, so this bunch of beautiful colours will enhance your look at any time. In many ways, they just look too good to actually use! I know that pink is a clichéd colour when it comes to ballet; but in truth hardly any dancers wear pink in rehearsals and how often do you see it on stage ? What is true is that pink and it’s associated shades are very flattering to a wide range of people and that’s why the cosmetics houses focus on them.
I’m starting off with Dior, because when I check through my make-up I’m astonished to discover that I’ve collected every single one of their 5 Couleurs eyeshadow palettes. The reason for this is simple; they are staggeringly beautiful and I defy anyone to walk past their display and leave without one.
The Dior 5 Couleurs Garden Edition Couture Eyeshadow Palette (the Limited Edition versions are ALWAYS keepers) has been inspired by Christian Dior’s Normandy garden, and what makes Dior a valuable purchase is the pigmentation in the palettes – meaning that the colour will last and last. The shadows, their surface delicately embossed with a rose motif, seem to have been hand-embroidered in the Dior Couture Ateliers.
This Limited Edition comes in two palettes (thank goodness!) – Two palettes feature a range of fresh pastel harmonies, one in luminous green, the other in violets and delicate shades of pink.
Prices will vary so check around – mine have come from Selfridges and they are £41. You can also call Dior on 0207 216 0216.
If you’re buying the Rose Edition, I’d suggest one of my favourite mascaras with a new twist – it’s plum coloured. Diorshow Extase has long been the only black mascara for me that really does give you show-stopping lashes easily, and at £22 it’s worth every penny. It’s also available via Amazon :
Something else that has caught my eye at Dior, is this gorgeous clutch bag – that isn’t! The Dior Milly Garden Clutch is a pale pink case with a delicate weave decoration, and two silver-plated rosebud clasps: The Dior Garden Clutch is a precious accessory inspired by jewellery-making expertise. The case opens to reveal the must-haves for fresh, radiant eyes and lips: three eyeshadow shades to light up and emphasise the eyes and two lip glosses, one to enhance the lips, the other to colour them.
And finally we come to the time-critical launch of Chanel’s Le Vernis Nail Colour in May, a totally gorgeous candy pink shade that is available from Friday at £17.50. Telephone Chanel for more information on 0207 493 3836.
With any of these heavenly treats, I really wouldn’t hang about if you want to get your mitts on them. Even if you plan them as birthday gifts (for you or someone else) in the months ahead, I’d still buy them now because if you miss out at the launch, as they are Limited Edition’s, you’ll soon find yourself trailing every shop and internet outlet to find the last one – I know; I’ve been there !
Lastly, I want to introduce to you a clever illustration by a long-time collaborator of mine, Noemi Manalang, that emphasises the pink and green theme you’ve seen repeated throughout this Beauty & the Ballet feature – and Noemi is very, very clued up about the latest fashion trends so watch this space!
