BALLET SUMMER TRADITION RETURNS
Winnipeg, Manitoba (July 12, 2011) – Presenting Sponsor Manitoba Lotteries and Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet bring back one of the city’s most beloved summer traditions, Ballet in the Park, July 27- 29. Free performances will be held at the Lyric Theatre at Assiniboine Park starting at 7:30 pm nightly.
Ballet in the Park has been a Winnipeg summer tradition since the 1970’s. Tourists and Manitobans of all ages and walks of life gather in the park each summer to witness the exceptional artistry of the RWB Company and School through these free community performances. This year’s programming features a diverse mix of what the RWB has to offer, from the en pointe work of classical ballet to the edgy moves of contemporary dance.
Two of the RWB Company’s newest principal dancers, Ms. Yun Wang and Mr. Yang Jiao from Liaoning, China, will give their first performance on a Winnipeg stage, the challenging pas de deux from Don Quixote. This is the local public’s first chance to see the RWB’s new principals in action. Also on the program this year are works performed by RWB School Professional Division students, two of which have been choreographed by recent Professional Division graduates. Students from the Recreational Division will also share the stage, giving the audience a taste of the broad range of dance expression at Winnipeg’s top dance school.

Cancellations due to inclement weather will be made as close to the performance start time as possible and will be issued by local radio stations as well as on the RWB website.
