Ballet, Ballet News

Last weekend, Celisa Diuana found time during her incredibly busy schedule to arrange her third rehearsal for one of three ballet’s she will dance for the Ballet Gala in aid of the Honeypot Charity on November 7th.  I recently interviewed Diuana and published a behind-the-scenes snapshot of the photo shoot which accompanied the piece.

The Red Heart Pas de deux, choroegraphed by Renato Paroni, to music by Keith Jarret evokes scenes of the shifting sands within a relationship.  Power changes hands between the couple constantly.

During the creative process, the trio converse in rapid Portuguese, frequently punctuated with bursts of laughter.  Now and again Paroni will come over to me and try to interpret what he has said to make them double up with laughter.  Diuana and de Oliveira Souza are from Rio, Brazil, and it turns out that some terminology hasn’t made it across the generation gap !

These images are a snapshot of how the Pas de deux is looking.  Diuana will be wearing a red leotard and skirt; de Oliveira Souza will be wearing either black, red or green but the process is on-going and the final decisions not yet made.  You have a preview here of the new work and I hope the images convey to you the passion and intensity of the piece.

The Pas de deux has many flowing lifts, balances and turns, and the dancers spend a long time working out where feet, arms and heads can fit to enable to smooth flow of the dance.  In three rehearsals they have the whole work completed and are fine-tuning for performance this weekend.
