Birmingham Royal Ballet’s ‘leavers and starters’ at the end of the December 2011 London O2 season
First Soloist Lei Zhao left Birmingham Royal Ballet to pursue a teaching career. Lei said:
After working as a professional dancer for the past 16 years, I am retiring from Birmingham Royal Ballet (BRB) to pursue a career in ballet teaching and dance education. BRB has been like one big family to me, I have grown up in the company and had a wonderful time working with many elite people from across the dance world. I have been blessed with many memorable opportunities at BRB, including touring overseas and promotions to First Soloist position. Whilst working with BRB I had the opportunity to study and receive a Master of Arts degree from University of Birmingham and a Teaching Diploma from the Royal Academy of Dance. I hope this wealth of experience with one of the leading ballet companies in the world will help me through this transition stage and into my next passion, teaching and education.
Also, Reina Fuchigami joined Birmingham Royal Ballet as Artist from The Royal Ballet School and Soloist Max Westwell left Birmingham Royal Ballet to return toLondon.
