For one performance only, Birmingham Royal Ballet and its acclaimed orchestra The Royal Ballet Sinfonia, under Principal Conductor Paul Murphy, return to Birmingham’s Symphony Hall- one of the world’s finest concert halls- for An Evening of Music and Dance on Saturday 26 January 2013 at 7.30pm.
This delightful evening will be presented by Deborah Bull, who has enjoyed a thirty year career in the arts as a dancer with the Royal Ballet, as the author of four books, as Creative Director of the Royal Opera House and, since 1998, as presenter and writer of a wide range of programmes across both television and radio. It will include classical favourites and danced highlights from Birmingham Royal Ballet’s and The Royal Ballet Sinfonia’s diverse repertory as the company and orchestra look ahead to the spring 2013 season.
Under the baton of Birmingham Royal Ballet’s Principal Conductor Paul Murphy, The Royal Ballet Sinfonia (Britain’s busiest ballet orchestra) will perform music highlights from celebrated composers including Antonin Dvořák’s Carnival overture, Walton’s coronation march Orb and Sceptre, and, in what will be his centenary year, Richard Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries.
Also enjoy a sneak-preview of Director David Bintley’s new Aladdin ahead of its UK premiere at Birmingham Hippodrome in February, and Frederick Ashton’s gem the Thaïs pas de deux to Jules Massenet’s haunting melody, as well as excerpts from Ashton’s Façade with its witty score from William Walton.
Birmingham Royal Ballet’s Principal dancers Nao Sakuma, Cesar Morales, Jenna Roberts, Iain Mackay and Chi Cao will be amongst members of the Company performing during the evening.
An Evening of Music and Dance will also feature a guest appearance from students of Elmhurst School for Dance, an Associate School of Birmingham Royal Ballet.
