Boys Only! dance workshop, Edinburgh
The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), in partnership with Dance Base, presents their Boys Only! weekend workshop for boys between the ages of 8 and 18 years, on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 April 2012.
Taking place at Dance Base, Edinburgh, this high energy two-day workshop gives young men the opportunity to experience ballet, creative and street dance, whether for the first time or as part of ongoing training. Participants will work with experienced and inspirational male teachers: Kenny Burke of the Dance School of Scotland, Allan Irvine of Dance Base and Andy Howitt of Citymoves.
Edinburgh workshop – Luke, aged 13, who also took place in 2010’s workshop, comments: ‘I am really excited to be going back to Boys Only! – at the last Boys Only!, the teacher inspired me so much when he showed us a double tour on l’air, that I wanted to become a ballet dancer, I said to myself – I want to do that! I am now studying at the Dance School of Scotland and loving every minute. Boys Only! really changed my life – I couldn’t imagine doing anything else with my life!’
Kenny Burke, Head of the Dance School of Scotland commented on Luke’s achievements: ‘We are delighted that the Boys Only weekend brought us Luke, an exciting talent for the future.’
Boys Only! is reaching out to the community, giving young men the opportunity to demonstrate their potential and to dance with and learn from their male peers and leading dance artists. Quality teaching and insights into the dance profession also make this a unique experience.
Boys Only! originated in 2005 when the RAD raised £50,000 at a Billy Elliot -The Musical gala and launched the programme with the aim of widening participation in dance through open access events specifically targeting young men with little or no dance experience. It is now a national programme working in collaboration with a range of regional partners delivering ballet from a fresh perspective in conjunction with other dance styles.
Applicants interested in the upcoming Edinburgh workshop should contact the RAD Training department by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org / +44 0207 326 8025 and application forms can be downloaded from RAD’s website.
The closing date for entries is Monday 26 March 2012. The cost is £48 for two full days of dance.
