Diablo Ballet Announces  2012-2013 Season with Premieres and A Swingin’ Holiday

2012 – 2013 Program Line-up to Include a new Holiday Ballet and works by George Balanchine, Trey McIntyre and Vincente Nebrada.

Diablo Ballet is thrilled to announce its 19th season featuring works by George Balanchine, Trey McIntyre and Vicente Nebrada of Ballet Nacional de Caracas.  In addition, the Company announced the world premiere of its first holiday ballet.

The 19th Season begins November 16th & 17th at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek with a program of Latin flare and holiday cheer. Diablo Ballet is pleased to bring the West Coast Premiere of Lento a Tempe a Appassionato by renowned choreographer Vicente Nebrada of Ballet Nacional de Caracas.  The second part of the November program features the world premiere of A Swingin’ Holiday. Created and choreographed by Sean Kelly (resident choreographer for the national tour of the musical Billy Elliot, former principal of Houston Ballet). The holidays get jumpin’ with this thrilling dance work set to the swing music of the 1930’s & 40’s by such legends as Duke Ellington & Benny Goodman. A Swingin’ Holiday will be performed with a live Big Band under the musical direction of Greg Sudmeier.

Following the November 17th matinee, ticket holders are invited to meet and mingle with the dancers. Children under 12 may also have their photo taken with the dancers in costume.

Diablo Ballet’s acclaimed Inside the Dancer’s Studio series returns on March 1and 2 and May 3 and 4 at the Shadelands Arts Center Auditorium in Walnut Creek. A wide range of both classical and contemporary works will be presented, including George
Balanchine, KT Nelson and the West Coast Premiere of Trey McIntyre’s The Blue Boy, set to Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in C Major, Op. 15.

The Inside the Dancer’s Studio Series, will celebrate its fourth season in March and May 2013 at the Shadelands Arts Center Auditorium in Walnut Creek.  This unique venue places the audience within yards of the stage, and a lively, interactive Q&A with the dancers follows the performance hosted by local celebrity moderators. A reception with tasty gourmet delicacies, Peet’s Coffee, and California wines are served with the opportunity for the audience members to get up close and personal with the artists.

For 18 years, Diablo Ballet has been the award-winning, professional dance company for Contra Costa County.  Presenting acclaimed classical and contemporary works, Diablo Ballet name 2011 Best Dance Company for the East Bay by Diablo Magazine. The Company is also committed to exposing youth to the arts through the renowned PEEK Youth Outreach Program, brining in-school arts education to over 5,000 elementary school students in under-served Contra Costa counties. PEEK was recently recognized by Congressman John Garamendi for its outstanding contribution to the community.

    I love this company! They do such interesting and varied work that the big guys in SF (SF Ballet) won’t touch. Sounds like a great season.
