DUTCH NATIONAL BALLET’S NUTCRACKER & THE MOUSE KING LIVE IN CINEMAS ACROSS THE UK THIS CHRISTMAS
Ballet fans across the UK and Ireland can watch a special matinee performance of Nutcracker & the Mouse King from the Dutch National Ballet
broadcast live by satellite to cinemas on Friday 30 December 2011 at 1pm. Choreographed by Wayne Eagling and Toer van Schayk, it stars the sensational Russian/Canadian pairing Anna Tsygankova and Matthew Golding dancing The Nutcracker together for the first time.
Unlike the original story, Nutcracker & the Mouse King is set in an Amsterdam canal house on the eve of St. Nicholas giving this well-known
Christmas classic a delightful Dutch twist. Designed by Toer van Schayk, the staging includes skaters gliding over canals, the living room transforming into a snow-covered forest and a mechanised Nutcracker doll.
The ballet is led by the Dutch National Ballet’s principals, Anna Tsygankova and Matthew Golding, who have been described as one of the most perfect ballet partnerships in the world today. A couple in real life, and both award-winning dancers, this will be first time they have performed together in the roles of Clara and the Nutcracker Prince.
This live broadcast is also the first time cinema audiences outside the Netherlands have been able to watch the Dutch National Ballet’s version of this
seasonal favourite. Screening in high definition and surround sound, the Nutcracker & the Mouse King will be brought to life on the big screen and
offers ideal family entertainment this Christmas.
