English National Ballet is to perform at the Conservative Party Conference, as part of Jeremy Hunt’s address

English National Ballet is delighted to have been invited to dance at the Conservative Party Conference, on Monday 3 October in Manchester as part of Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt’s address.

The performance will illustrate Jeremy Hunt’s comments on the Cultural Olympiad and will celebrate English National Ballet’s part in the festival, which will be Dance GB, a collaboration with Scottish Ballet and National Dance Company Wales to be launched on 24 October.

English National Ballet Senior Principal Dancer Elena Glurdjidze will perform The Swan at the conference, made famous in the 1920s by the iconic Ballets Russes Company. The Swan, with music by Saint-Saëns, is a beautiful display of a dancer’s grace and poise as well as her strength and stamina.

Dance GB sees the three national dance companies of the UK – English National Ballet, National Dance Company Wales and Scottish Ballet – celebrating the Olympics in a unique creative collaboration. Echoing the British Olympic team, Team GB, Dance GB takes the Olympic ideals of “faster, higher, stronger” and translates them into an inspirational dance project which is performed across the UK and culminating in performances in the grounds of the Royal Naval College in Greenwich.

The full Company of English National Ballet will return to Manchesterfrom 12 October performing the dazzling Strictly Gershwin at the Manchester Palace Theatre. Strictly Gershwin is a dance extravaganza celebrating the razzmatazz of the 40s in a journey through tap, ballroom and ballet. A jazz orchestra, pianist, and singers will join the Company on stage playing a host of Gershwin favourites.
