English National Ballet School presents its second USA Summer Intensive in partnership with Ballet Theatre of Toledo

Following the success of the inaugural Summer Intensive last July, English National Ballet School returns to The Ballet Theatre of Toledo studio in Holland, Ohio, to run its second summer course.

The world-renowned ballet school, based in London, England, will be sending teachers from the school to lead a week long ballet intensive from July 21-26 2014. This will be the only opportunity in 2014 for students and ballet professionals to study with this esteemed arts organization within the United States. The course is open to Advanced, Pre-Professionals and Professionals and master classes will also be held in the evenings for Intermediate-level students.

“We are thrilled to have our studios chosen by this prestigious program as the host site for this summer course,” said Nigel Burgoine, BTT Artistic Director. “Our spacious and modern ballet facility with three studios was exactly what English National Ballet School was seeking in a North American location for its summer program.”

Samira Saidi, Director of Dance at English National Ballet School says,”‘I am delighted to be returning to Toledo and look forward once again to working with Nigel Burgoine and The Ballet Theatre of Toledo and of course the students from across the USA and Canada. .”

Auditioning for a place on the course is by Youtube link and DVD. Dancers from the local area and region are invited to apply to join the class, which is expected to draw ballet students from across the country. Five scholarships have been provided by Dorothy Mackenzie Price.

English National Ballet School, official school of English National Ballet

Artistically led by renowned dancer and choreographer Samira Saidi, Director of Dance, English National Ballet School was founded in 1988 to provide talented young dancers with the highest quality training irrespective of their background or ability to pay. At present a third of dancers at English National Ballet are graduates of the School and have contracts at all levels of the company from Artist to Senior Principal. This relationship with the company provides students with regular work experience opportunities, enabling them to perform in core company programmes both on the main stage and various events across London. The School has maintained a 100% graduate employment record with graduates securing contracts with leading ballet companies within the UK and worldwide.

In April 2012 the School in partnership with English National Ballet launched the “My First…” series of ballets – abridged versions of classical ballets aimed at young children and families. The ballets, produced by English National Ballet, are performed by the students and tour across England.

For the past 10 years, the School has been officially designated ‘Outstanding’ by the UK Schools Inspectorate (OFSTED) for all aspects of its teaching and learning. The School offers a 3 year full time Diploma programme for its Senior Students and open access classes for children aged 3 upwards in its dance studios in Chelsea, London.

Under the leadership of the internationally known dancer and choreographer Artistic Director Nigel Burgoine and Toledo’s own former prima ballerina Anne Marie Getz, Ballet Theatre of Toledo was created to ensure classical ballet training and performances in a family-based setting.

Ballet Theatre of Toledo is a 501C3 non-profit arts organization supported by its families, members and the Ohio Arts Council; not a private, for-profit business. As a performance-based ballet school where dancers learn classical ballet under a world-class faculty, students find themselves on the stages of some of the region’s most unique arts venues. In addition to “The Nutcracker,” a glorious holiday tradition on Thanksgiving weekend in Toledo’s spectacular Valentine Theatre, numerous production opportunities are provided BTT dancers both locally and “on the road” as invited performers.

BTT offers classes for dancers from beginners at age 3 through adult. The studio is located at 1124 Corporate Drive, Holland, behind Kohl’s plaza, just off Airport Highway and U.S. 23.
