ADMISSION FREE – Drop-in event (no advance booking required). Join English National Ballet and engage in a programme of FREE activities inspired by the Emerging Dancer Award.

10.30am – 11.45am: English National Ballet class

Follow the six Emerging Dancer nominees for 2011 as they kickstart their day with daily class. Gain a unique insight into the rigours of classical ballet training and join in a Q&A. The nominees are :

12pm – 1pm: English National Ballet Men Y Men rehearsal

Observe English National Ballet’s top male dancers as they rehearse Wayne Eagling’s high energy, invigorating and athletic choreography, Men Y Men. See Men Y Men as part of English National Ballet’s triple bill performance at the London Coliseum in March.

2pm – 3.30pm: English National Ballet School class & rehearsal

English National Ballet School presents a unique opportunity to learn more about what it takes to become a professional dancer. See the stars of tomorrow in training by watching a class and open rehearsal with Director of Dance and internationally renowned choreographer, Michael Corder.

4pm – 5.30pm: English National Ballet’s Department of Learning workshop

Brighten up your February by joining in or observing a fun and challenging workshop led by English National Ballet’s Department of Learning. Enjoy taking part in warm up exercises, practical techniques and choreographic processes in this creative dance session.

English National Ballet continue their London season at the Coliseum in March with Black & White, a quadruple bill comprising Resolution, Men Y Men, a new ballet by Van le Ngoc and Suite en Blanc.

Company Artistic Director Wayne Eagling choreographed two of the ballets – Resolution and Men Y Men, with Serge Lifar choreographing Suite en Blanc which is a neoclassical showpiece for the company, displaying as it does their classical talents and sparkling elegance.

Van le Ngoc is a talented dancer and choreographer, and his work was most recently seen at the Shanghai Expo where he created a piece in conjunction with the Shanghai Ballet called The Weight of Love.

Swan Lake also returns in March for 7 performances.  Derek Deane’s choreography and Peter Farmer’s designs compliment each other well.  The production was last seen in London in 2008.

The Nutcracker, Wayne Eagling’s new version which premiered last December, will return for 36 performances between 8th – 30th December.

There are several half-hour pre-performance talks beginning at 6pm which are free to ticket holders.  The Black & White event is on Friday 18th March, Swan Lake on Friday 25th March and The Nutcracker is on Friday 9th December 2011.

If you’d like a closer look behind the scenes, English National Ballet offers Inside Ballet – your chance to see the costumes, attend a private talk and watch company class.  Inside Ballet takes place on Thursday 24th March for Swan Lake and Thursday 15th December for The Nutcracker, both beginning at 10.30am, lasting two hours & costing £49.50 per person (includes an upper circle seat).

On Saturday March 19th, English National Ballet will hold an on-stage boys ballet masterclass for boys aged 15+ at intermediate grade or above.  The class begins at 9.30am and finishes at 12pm.  During the morning you have the opportunity to explore Wayne Eagling’s Men Y Men and to watch company class.  The event costs £20.

There are three on-stage ballet workshops costing £15.  The Swan Lake workshop, which is suitable for children aged between 7-10 years, takes place on Saturday 26th March at 9.30am.  There are two workshops on The Nutcracker; the first for children between 7-10 years on Saturday 10th December at 9.30am and the second for older children aged 11-14 years on Saturday 17th December also at 9.30am.  The morning event costs £15.

There is an adult ballet on-stage masterclass for age 14+ on Saturday 23rd July at 9.20am based on Roland Petit and costs £20.
