John Neumeier’s new creation “Tenth Symphony by Gustav Mahler“ opens the festival on June 26. With this ballet, the artistic director of the HAMBURG BALLET will continue his exploration of the Austrian composer’s work and commemorate the 100th anniversary of day of Mahler’s death.
This year’s guest company is The National Ballet of China. The company will present the ballet “Raise the Red Lantern” based on the film of the same title by Zhang Yimou. The production, which merges elements of Chinese culture with Western ballet tradition premiered in 2001 and has been a huge success with audiences in China and throughout the world.
