Today I’d like to highlight the importance of dancer’s health, and two of the companies who are working hard in leading the way in this field.
Harlequin Floors are acknowledged the world over as leaders in advanced technology flooring for dance, and they recently made a huge donation to Dance UK towards their latest initiative.
Dance UK is the national voice for dance and was founded in 1982 by dance professionals to tackle the big issues facing dance. They lobby, champion, advocate, develop, nurture and provide – and now they have gone one step further with the creation of the National Institute of Dance Medicine & Science.
This video was filmed at the launch of Dance UK’s initiative to create the National Institute of Dance Medicine & Science – the first of it’s kind in the UK.
Ballet NEWS supporter and Strictly Come Dancing Champion Camilla Dallerup joined a panel of experts during the event, and I think you’ll find many of her comments very illuminating.
I would like to see more emphasis on other areas of health care specifically for dancers beyond the usual physiotherapy/osteopathy & sports massage, to include chiropractic because it can treat bunions and bone spurs which are common and sometimes serious problems faced by dancers. Chiropractic adjustments can prevent these problems from occurring, and if they are already an issue, chiropractic treatment can significantly reduce recovery time. I’ll be writing more about this subject next month.
