HOUSTON BALLET II ANNOUNCES TOURING TO SWITZERLAND AND TORONTO IN SPRING 2013
HOUSTON, TX – Houston Ballet Artistic Director Stanton Welch announces Spring 2013 touring schedule for Houston Ballet II. On Saturday, February 2, Houston Ballet II dancers will perform excerpts from Stanton Welch’s neoclassical work, A Dance in the Garden of Mirth, at the Théâtre de Beaulieu in Lausanne, Switzerland as part of the climax of the prestigious 41st annual Prix de Lausanne International Ballet Competition, running from January 27 – February 2, 2013.
“We are excited that Houston Ballet II will make its first appearances in Lausanne, Switzerland, and Toronto, Canada in the spring of 2013,” commented Houston Ballet Executive Director James Nelson. “The high level of technical skills of the HBII dancers — along with their unique repertoire – have led to engagements in Guatemala, Hungary, Mexico, and all across the United States over the last five years.”
Houston Ballet II’s spring touring includes performances in Houston, Texas. On Tuesday, March 12th at noon HBII will give a free hour-long performance at Discovery Green Park, located at 1500 McKinney Houston, TX 77010.
On Friday, April 12, 2013 at 7:30 pm, HBII will join forces with student musicians from the University of Houston in a performance at the Moore’s Opera House, featuring Stanton Welch’s Brigade (set to music by Benjamin Britten) and HBII Ballet Master Claudio Munoz’s excerpts of Coppélia called Dr. Coppelius, The Magician (set to music by Leo Delibes), featuring a live orchestra accompaniment. The concert will take place at the Moore’s Opera House, located at 120 School of Music Bldg. Houston, TX 77204 on the University of Houston campus. On Friday, April 26 at 7:00 pm and Saturday, April 27 at 1:30 pm, HBII will perform as part of Houston Ballet’s Ben Stevenson Academy Spring Showcase in the Cullen Theater at Wortham Theater Center, 510 Texas Avenue at Smith Street in downtown Houston. From Sunday, April 28 – Sunday, May 5, dancers from Houston Ballet II will join young dancers from other leading ballet companies from across the world for the Assemblée Internationale 2013, convened and organized by Canada’s National Ballet School in Montreal. Other participating schools include Cuba’s National Ballet School, the John Cranko Schule from Stuttgart, Germany, Dutch National Ballet Academy, The Australian Ballet School, and The Juilliard School. The AI13 performances will be held at the Betty Oliphant Theatre – located at 404 Jarvis Street, Toronto, Ontario M4Y 2G6. There will be 4 public performances during the weeklong festival.
