Amazon’s top-selling e-reader, the Kindle is aimed at readers who want to get straight to the heart of a book – the content – rather than, say, those who like to see the cover of the book or the author’s photograph, smell the pages or actually ‘pick up a book’ to read.
It’s a neat way of getting to the content you want to read and being able to carry around with you literally thousands of books. You never lose them – once you’ve downloaded them they are available to you forever, even if you lose your Kindle. It’s thin and light – 241 grams, and with a screen entirely free of glare (which also means you can’t read in the dark) it’s a very different experience from reading something on your computer screen.
There are two versions – and the choice depends on whether you want to download books on demand, wherever you are, or not. The basic model will cost you £109 and you can download as long as you are in a wi-fi area, and the £149 3G Kindle works anywhere there is a mobile signal.
It’s many good features include being able to make notes in the margins, mark extracts for future easy reference, bookmark pages and download a daily newspaper (great if you are away from home and the paper copies take a week to arrive).
In fact, Amazon sells more e-books than print editions.
With this in mind, along with reader feedback, Ballet NEWS has launched a Kindle edition of the popular ‘Cupcakes & Conversation with …’ series of interviews.
Just in time for Christmas, ‘Cupcakes & Conversation with…’ could make the perfect present for someone who has just bought a Kindle (or been given one as a present) and who might have missed out on some of the Ballet NEWS Cupcakes interviews over the past couple of years. Also, it won’t break the bank !
From the back cover :
