XANDER PARISH joins Andris Liepa’s SAISONS RUSSES
at the Coliseum July 16-20
XANDER PARISH, dancer with the Mariinsky Ballet, comes to London next week with Andris Liepa’s Saisons Russes to perform the lead role in ‘Chopiniana’ and to make his debut in ‘Le Spectre de la Rose’.
Born in East Yorkshire, Xander began dancing in Hull at the age of 8 and joined the Royal Ballet School at the age of 11 in 1998. While he was at the RBS, his awards included the Young British Dancer of the Year Award (2nd prize 2004) and a Silver Medal at the Genee International Ballet Competition (Athens, 2004). Xander graduated in 2005 and subsequently joined the Royal Ballet where he danced for nearly five years. In 2009 he was invited to join the Mariinsky Ballet by its director Yuri Fateyev. He left the Royal Ballet at the beginning of 2010 and immediately joined the Mariinsky becoming the first British trained ballet dancer to become resident there. Since then he has built up a formidable repertoire including Giselle (Count Albrecht), Chopiniana (Les Sylphides), Scheherazade (Golden Slave), Swan Lake (pas de trois) Romeo & Juliet (Paris, Troubador) and Balanchine ballets including Apollo, Emeralds & Serenade.
“I am very much looking forward to coming back to London to perform with Andris Liepa’s Russian Seasons of the 21st Century at the Coliseum,” says Xander. “As a Brit, it’s a great honour to be a part of showing these beautiful Russian ballets in my home country. Chopiniana was my first leading role with the Mariinsky Ballet in February 2010 and since then I have performed it a lot with the company and each time I learn more and more. I performed this role with the Mariinsky on our last London tour in summer 2011 so I hope I will be able to show what I have learned in St Petersburg since then, not just technically but stylistically too. I also have the privilege of making my debut in Le Spectre de la Rose, a role famous among male dancers for being tough but also pivotal in terms of growing as an artist.”
Xander has toured with the Mariinsky Ballet to Canada, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, UAE, UK and USA. Xander is generously supported by The Mariinsky Theatre Trust UK.
