National Ballet of Canada | Nijinsky Principal Casting Announced
February 19, 2013… Karen Kain, Artistic Director of The National Ballet of Canada, today announced the principal casting for the highly anticipated Canadian premiere of Nijinsky which opens the Winter Season in Toronto at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts on March 2, 2013.
Principal Dancer Guillaume Côté and Corps de Ballet member Skylar Campbell will dance the title role of Vaslav Nijinsky. Principal Dancers Jiří Jelinek and Piotr Stanczyk will perform the role of Serge Diaghilev, the ballet impresario and founder of Ballet Russes. The role of Nijinsky’s wife Romola will be danced by Principal Dancers Heather Ogden, Sonia Rodriguez and Jillian Vanstone.
Guest Artist Alexandre Riabko, Principal Dancer with The Hamburg Ballet, will make his debut with the company in the role of Vaslav Nijinsky.
Nijinsky is a complex character study of one of ballet’s most legendary figures. Part memory and part biographical narrative, Nijinsky explores the passion and renowned physicality the celebrated dancer possessed, as well as his ultimate descent into madness.
New this Winter Season, the National Ballet’s popular and free Ballet Talks will be located in the R. Fraser Elliot Auditorium at the Four Seasons Centre to accommodate an ever growing audience in better comfort. The Ballet Talks will begin one hour before the performance and seating, on the orchestra level only, will be on a first come, first served basis. The Ballet Talks for Nijinsky will be led by Ballet Master Lindsay Fischer.
