Opening Night Ballet Talk with Christopher Wheeldon and Karen Kain

May 27, 2011… Karen Kain, Artistic Director of The National Ballet of Canada, today announced the principal casting for the North American premiere of Christopher Wheeldon’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, onstage June 4 – 25, 2011 at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts.

The opening night cast on June 4 at 7:30 pm features First Soloist Jillian Vanstone in the role of Alice, Principal Dancers Zdenek Konvalina as Jack/The Knave of Hearts, Aleksandar Antonijevic as Lewis Carroll/The White Rabbit, Greta Hodgkinson as Mother/The Queen of Hearts, Artist-in-Residence Rex Harrington as Father/The King of Hearts, Guest Artist Steven McRae as Magician/The Mad Hatter, Principal Dancer Jiří Jelinek as Rajah/The Caterpillar and Principal Character Artist Kevin D. Bowles as The Duchess.

Mr. Wheeldon’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland combines Lewis Carroll’s narrative with a commissioned score by renowned British composer Joby Talbot with set and costumes by Tony Award-winning designer Bob Crowley and lighting by Natasha Katz.

Mr. Wheeldon speaks about creating Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland at the opening night pre-show Ballet Talk, hosted by Ms. Kain. Ballet Master Lindsay Fischer will give the remaining Ballet Talks. All Ballet Talks begin 45 minutes prior to the curtain.
