Northern Ballet’s hotly-anticipated new ballet for children Three Little Pigs will première in Leeds this October.

The second production in Northern Ballet’s series of Short Ballets for Small People, Three Little Pigs has been created to introduce families and young children to live dance, music and theatre. It will be performed in three venues across Leeds: The Hunslet Club (20 Oct), The Riley Theatre (26 Oct) and the Stanley & Audrey Burton (28 Oct – 2 Nov).

Three Little Pigs follows the sell-out success of Ugly Duckling which toured to over twenty venues and delighted audiences and critics. Choreographed by Northern Ballet dancers Hannah Bateman and Victoria Sibson, Three Little Pigs tells the famous story of how the pigs overcome the Big Bad Wolf in a colourful, funny and entertaining 40 minute performance. Tickets are priced at just £4 and £5.

Selina McGonagle, Director of Learning at Northern Ballet, said, “We are very excited about our next Short Ballet Three Little Pigs. We hope it gives more children and families in Leeds the opportunity to visit the theatre and see Ballet for the first time.”

Three Little Pigs will be accompanied by education activities in communities across Leeds, including a Family Fun Day at Meanwood Urban Valley Farm on Sat 7 September. Selina added, ‘We will be working with a variety of community groups in Chapeltown and Hunslet. We hope that by delivering fun, movement and play activity based around little piggies, we will encourage families who may not usually come to see us to give ballet a go.’

Three Little Pigs will embark on an extensive national tour to 21 venues across the UK in spring 2014. Visit Northern Ballet’s website to find out about performances near you.

Northern Ballet is renowned for its full-length narrative productions which embrace popular culture and take inspiration from literature, opera, or give a unique interpretation of classical ballets. The Leeds-based company is committed to touring throughout the UK and overseas, developing new audiences for dance.

Three Little Pigs is an audience outreach project funded by Leeds City Council. This is the second in Northern Ballet’s series of Short Ballets for Small People which aim is to produce ballet specifically for young children and to engage families in theatre, art and music in a fun, lively and approachable way.
