Queensland Ballet | Cinderella will go to the ball next year…
Queensland Ballet announces 2014 regional tour of Queensland and secures Ben Stevenson’s production of The Nutcracker
Following a sell-out season of Ben Stevenson’s Cinderella, Queensland Ballet is delighted to announce it will be touring Cinderella to eight regional Queensland venues in 2014 – Toowoomba, Gold Coast, Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Gladstone, Rockhampton and Maryborough.
The Company has also announced it has secured Stevenson’s critically-acclaimed production of The Nutcracker for its Christmas season at the Playhouse, Queensland Performing Arts Centre (6 – 21 December).
Mr Cunxin comments: “We are overjoyed with the success of our first season of Cinderella. Due to popular demand we added two extra performances to the season, and the extended season completely sold out before we opened.
“The positive response from audiences has been overwhelming, and we’re very excited to announce that we will be sharing Cinderella with regional audiences in 2014.”
The 2014 regional tour of Cinderella tour has been made possible thanks to support from the Queensland Government’s Playing Fund – Boost to Touring.
Arts Minister Ian Walker said he was delighted to see the Queensland Ballet playing a key role in the Queensland Government’s commitment to increasing touring to the State’s regions. “This tour of Cinderella shows how we are making the arts accessible to all Queenslanders, and Queensland Ballet’s regional tour of Cinderella is a great example of the fund in action.”
Artistic Director Li Cunxin is similarly delighted about securing Ben Stevenson’s version of The Nutcracker.
“Our Christmas season of The Nutcracker will begin an annual Company tradition of presenting this cherished family ballet every Christmas, and I’m thrilled that we’ve secured Ben’s celebrated production to share with Australian audiences.
“I want to give everyone, from the young to the young at heart, the chance to escape to that glorious, enchanting Land of Snow, whether it’s a first-time visit or a welcomed return, and Ben’s production is one of the best in the world.”
Queensland Symphony Orchestra will join Queensland Ballet to perform Tchaikovsky’s magnificent music under the baton of Queensland Ballet’s Music Director and Chief Conductor Andrew Mogrelia.
Mr Cunxin will engage an internationally-renowned creative team to create the magical world of The Nutcracker. David Walters will light the magnificent new sets and costumes are to be designed by costume designer Desmond Heeley and set designer Tom Boyd.
Tickets to The Nutcracker are on sale now. Audiences can also buy season ticket packages, which offer unrivalled access to the Company.
Further details about regional performances of Cinderella in 2014 will be available when Queensland Ballet announces Season 2014 in late September.
