Dancers from The Royal Ballet, including Mara Galeazzi, Emma Maguire, Pietra Mello-Pitman, Gary Avis and Liam Scarlett, are lending their support to small London charity, Ashanti Development, by taking part in ‘A Dream of Africa,’ a Gala Evening held in celebration of the lives of Martin Luther King and Barack Obama.
‘A Dream of Africa’ will be held on Sunday 27 September 2009 at 7.30pm at the Royal College of Music’s Britten Theatre. All money raised will help tackle extreme poverty in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, and bring clean water to Ashanti villages.
Martha Boadu, Ashanti Development Trustee, says: “The election of Barack Obama brought enormous hope to Africans, and Ashanti Development is helping to turn that hope into reality. We aim to bring clean water, healthcare and help with education and economic development to over 15,000 villagers over the next two years.”
The Gala will include new choreography, dream dances and instrumental music.
The final appeal will be made by Ashanti Development patron, Frank Dobson MP.
