I can’t recommend this ballet Gala to you highly enough.  No matter how expensive you feel the tickets are, take a look at the repertory and the performers, read my review from last year, watch the video clip from the performance and see for yourself that it will be some of the best money you spend all year.  It’s always a long evening packed with absolute gems; literally unmissable.

ballet galaThe contribution that Anna Pavlova made to ballet around the world is inestimable and especially in England. Ashton and Helpmann were inspired by her and Ninette de Valois once said that she wished she had joined her company. A number of her company’s former dancers became teachers at the Royal Ballet School and elsewhere in England. For much of her life Anna Pavlova toured the world with her own company but kept a home in London, at Ivy House. The London Jewish Cultural Centre, current residents of Ivy House and custodians of her legacy, will be hosting Pavlova 2012 festival, a celebration of the vibrant contribution she made to London life and still makes to the world of classical dance and the organisers are proud to be opening the festival dedicated to such an icon of the ballet stage.

I almost don’t want to agree with the article, in case the tickets sell out before I have a chance to get them, but I completely agree with everything written! And the Youtube clip of last year’s show is one of my favourites on Youtube of all time, watching the intense concentration, the camaraderie, the relaxed and happy demeanour of some of the guests…..it’s just amazing to see so many phenomenally talented stars in the same building on the same evening!
