Ballet News brings you … Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special 2011
With dancing Snowmen and Santa’s reindeer, are you ready to dance off your dinner ?
Christmas jumpers are all the rage this year, and a couple of ginormous crackers will get this party started for the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special. Do you wish it could be Christmas every day ?
Bruce & Tess look as though they’ve been at the sherry already, with Brucie hiding behind the Christmas stockings and going through some themed jokes.
Tonight’s stars are Debra Stephenson (partnered with professional Strictly dancer Ian Waite), Simon Webbe (Katya Virshilas), Charlie Brooks (Vincent Simone), Barry McGuigan (Erin Boag) and Su Pollard (Anton du Beke).
And then…. The Grinch arrives, a.k.a judge Craig Revel-Horwood. Is this panto ?
Singer Simon Webbe kicks things off, dancing the Cha Cha Cha and quickly dispensing with a few clothes (his and Katya’s). He’s quite muscle-bound so it’s a bit stompy but his arms and hands are pretty musical whic helps with placing. It’s a confident routine and they both look happy. Len said it was “crisp like fresh snow and hot like a mulled wine. Tutti frutti what a booty.” Alesha thought it was “animalistic” and strong. Bruno has a hot flush and ends up feeling dizzy and Craig said it was a powerhouse of strength.

Impressionist Debra Stephenson is next, with her dance partner Ian Waite, dancing an American Smooth. In silver sequins and feathers and after only 8 hours of training, there’s quite a gap between then but turning seems to come easily to Debra and the lifts are nicely done. Perhaps Debra collapsed a little too heavily onto the sofa at the end but Alesha liked her lines and thought it was fantastic. Bruno said it was “light, sparkling and elegant and full of flavour. Delicious.” Craig picked up the gapping “you could drive a sleigh through, darling” but said the lifts were fantastic. Len likened Debra to the fairy on top of the tree.

An exploding Christmas pudding to look forward to ? Oh, who could it be ?!
Barry McGuigan, dancing ? His Strictly partner Erin Boag, Miss Whiplash, has her work cut out. Their Quickstep begins under the mistletoe and it’s pretty good considering the height difference. Barry is light on his feet and strong enough to lift Erin confidently. I’m not sure his feet are quite up to scratch but the camera work does much to obscure them. It’s still a very good routine and Erin is blazing a crimson trail around the dance floor. Bruno loved the spirit and speed of the dance. Craig said “you could do with a little more length of bone” and picked up a loss of balance at the start but he loved the Charleston section.

Charlie Brooks and Vincent Simone Jive energetically around the floor, with all the judges loving their routine.
Shakin Stevens sings one of his hits and did you notice the giant Christmas pudding stage right ?
Out bursts Russell Grant, in gold sequins, to dance with Flavia Cacace.
And the winners of the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special are…. Charlie and Vincent!
The Strictly finale sees all the contestants taking to the floor along with the judges.
