Strictly Come Dancing Results week 2 – First Elimination
Tony Jacklin is the first to depart the dance floor in Strictly Come Dancing 2013
Following last week’s first live show, this week Tess Daly & Claudia Winkleman declared the battle for the ballroom officially underway, as the lines opened for the viewers to cast their vote for the first time this series. Golfer Tony Jacklin and professional partner Aliona Vilani, and fashion designer Julien Macdonald and his partner Janette Manrara, became the first two couples to face the dance-off.
The fifteen couples each danced in a bid to impress the viewers at home, as well as judges Len Goodman, Darcey Bussell, Bruno Tonioli & Craig Revel Horwood – in the studio.
The judges’ scores were combined with their scores from last week, and then these overall scores were amalgamated with the results of the viewers’ votes to decide the lowest scoring two couples facing the dance off.
Both couples then performed their routines again; Tony and Aliona did their Charleston to ‘It Don’t Mean A Thing (If Ain’t Got That Swing)’ by Chantz and Julien and Janette performed their Tango to ‘Applause’ by Lady Gaga in hope of remaining in the competition.
After both couples had danced a second time, the judges delivered their verdicts with Craig, Darcey and Bruno all choosing to save Julien.
Head Judge Len Goodman said: “Tony you’ve been one of my golfing heroes all of my life, sadly I have to say I would have gone with Julien and Janette, but you’re still one of my heroes.”
Reflecting back on the results of tonight’s show, Tony said: “I’m a tough pupil. Aliona is a wonderful teacher. I’m going to stick to golf I think. I have enjoyed myself, it’s been a glimpse into another world which I have thoroughly enjoyed. I had no concept of the work that goes into this, and the work ethic that these girls have. I did my best.”
Sunday’s Results show featured a performance from Matt Goss, singing ‘When Will I Be Famous’.
Next week’s show will be the first of Strictly Come Dancing’s show-stopping themed weekends this series. Tune in on Saturday 12th October at 6.30pm for Love Week with the results show on Sunday 13thOctober at 7.20pm on BBC One and BBC One HD.
