With the grand final and the Strictly trophy in sight, hosts Sir Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly welcomed the remaining five couples onto the Strictly dance floor for another chance to impress judges Len Goodman, Darcey Bussell, Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood, and the viewers at home.

This week’s semi-final saw each couple perform two dance routines, a ballroom and a latin dance. The judges’ scores were combined with the results of the viewers’ votes to decide the lowest scoring two couples facing the dance off.

Patrick Robinson and his partner Anya Garnis faced Sunday night’s dance off for the third time, alongside Natalie Gumede and Artem Chigvintsev who were in the bottom two for the first time this series.

Both couples performed one of their routines again; Patrick and Anya performed their Waltz to the Righteous Brothers ‘Unchained Melody’ and Natalie and Artem performed their Argentine Tango to ‘Montserrat’ by Bajofondo.

After both couples had danced a second time, the judges delivered their verdicts with Craig, Darcey and Bruno all choosing to save Natalie and Artem. Head judge Len said that he agreed with his fellow judges and would also have saved the couple.

Looking back at his time on the show, Patrick said: “I’ve had an incredible journey, an incredible time, what an experience. Anya Garnis is just an incredible dancer, an incredible choreographer.”

Asked by Tess what his highlight was Patrick continued: “My highlight really may be a surprise, but being in the training room was the place I had the most fun and the most hard work, so being here was just the icing on the cake.”

Anya added: “You surprised me, you delivered week after week, but more than anything you inspired me so much. I couldn’t have done it without you. I think from my heart that you are a true artist, thank you for your hard work.”

Sophie Ellis Bextor, Abbey Clancy, Susanna Reid and Natalie Gumede will compete in the first ever all female Strictly final next weekend.

Also last night a magical Sunday night show opener from the Strictly professional dancers featured an appearance from the legendary magician Dynamo. Talking about his appearance on the show he said: “I am blown away by the amount of hard work all the guys are putting in, they are all brilliant, perhaps one day I’ll get my dancing shoes on again! Without wanting to spoil it this is the semi-final week and I already know who is going to win Strictly this year – I think it will surprise you all.”

On Sunday’s results show, the five-time Grammy Award winning Celine Dion added a touch of sparkle to the evening with a performance of her single Breakaway.

The photographs from the results show will be published as soon as the BBC releases them – please check back tomorrow if you can.

  1. Ballet News Says:

Roger Handley commented :There was no way that Natalie Gumede should have danced again, it was disgraceful that she had to. It should have been Susanna Reid without doubt. The whole thing smacked of a fix, although the BBC will of course deny it.

  2. Ballet News Says:

There’s certainly been some talk online about ‘fixing’ as there is about other reality tv shows. I think we have to be careful. Perhaps the BBC producers should be banned from contracting other BBC personalities onto the show to avoid any talk of fixing? But that rules out the popular ones such as The One Show and if course, BBC Breakfast. What would you suggest?
