Strictly Come Dancing week 9 – the results
Last night saw the celebrities trying to raise their game as the competition speeds towards the final. It wasn’t entirely successful. Harry and Aliona danced a great Quickstep but Holly and Artem struggled with Holly’s innate reticence which is gradually impeding her chances of reaching the final because she’s not connecting with either Artem or the voting audience, and their music choice which did not resonate favourably with the judges. Anita and Brendan danced a shaky Charleston because Anita has never been able to straighten her legs which would give her the proper hip action. Robbie and Ola are fully focused on the public vote with their entertaining moves (Robbie revealing his football shorts) but this leaves me wondering what’s happened to the standard of dancng this year.
Will the public save the most entertaining (Robbie), or the most improved (Alex) ? And if so, who will be in the bottom two this week and voted off before the quarter finals and movie week ?
The Strictly pros, dressed in all-black and all-white, open the show – Pasha, Katya, Brendan and Natalie Foxtrot their way around the floor in some style.
Tess is wearing another dress from her collection of deeply unsuitable/unflattering shapes; sometimes you just need to be age-appropriate and television is probably one of those times. Claudia (such great dress sense) introduces the treats to come, including Cee-Lo Green and then we are off on a re-run of last night.
With Robbie at the bottom of the leaderboard, and Harry at the top, what will the results reveal ?
The first couple safe are Harry & Aliona, followed by Chelsee & Pasha and Jason & Kristina. Holly & Artem find themselves in the bottom two, “again” says Holly. Bruno is bitterly disapointed to find Holly in the bottom two because considering the difficulty of the music she really did deliver. What more can she do?
Claudia talks to the saved couples, and Harry said that he found the Swingathon a highlight. Chelsee reveals that next week they will be dancing to a Shrek theme. I’m hoping they are channelling the Princess and not the Ogre. Jason feels it’s “more about the journey than the destination.”
Cee-Lo Green sings while the (non-Strictly) dancers fill the floor. I’m not keen on this habit of bringing in dancers when Strictly has the best there is, on a show that is really about the dance.
Oh dear. Len’s excrutiating Lens again. Is this the best way to highlight Claudia’s exceptional presenting skills ? I don’t think so. Cut the padding and innovate. Does Alesha have a dress that could contain her legs every once in a while ? Do we need to see them every week ?
Tess announces that Alex & James and Robbie & Ola are through to next week, leaving Anita & Brendan in the bottom two with Holly & Artem.
Anton and Erin take to the floor in top hat and tails to Mr Bojangles.
And so it’s Anita who leaves the show this week. She has been an inspiration to everyone but it’s possible that this dance just didn’t suit her. Anita has been relentlessly positive about the Strictly experience, and she is graceful in defeat; highlighting her time with Robin and Brendan. This has to be difficult for Bobby, who is not here due to a foot infection.
