Here’s how they got on.
Scott had been looking forward to his Charleston in training, saying that he thought it would bring out something of him and be a good dance for him. He’s wearing a horrible sailor suit which does little for him and he looks very stiff and seems to hardly be moving. Len liked it even though there were a couple of stumbles. Alesha liked the old fashioned entertainment and Bruno thought it was exhuberant and entertaining. Craig found the opening ‘nebulous’ though he thought the routine was cute. They score 35.
Kara & Artem were top of the leaderboard after their two dances on Friday night – what will they make of the rumba ? Kara says in training that she wants it to be flawless – she feels that a place in the finals would be the perfect thank you to Artem for his skill in training her for three months. She is wearing a long pink dress – the best dress of the series – with her hair long and flowing like Juliet (from Romeo & Juliet). The dance is exquisite, beautiful and touching. Kara danced it to perfection and the choreography was stunning. Alesha was mesmerised, saying it was pure magic. Bruno said the dance was ravishing and that Kara is the Goddess of Love. He also remarked that Kara’s dancing is that of a professional standard and that it would be unjust if she didn’t make the final. Craig said the routine was almost perfect (she lifted her foot off the floor in one turn, constituting a lift) and Len says that Kara is not supposed to be able to dance the rumba that well ! It was knockout. They score 39 and Kara admits that she was nervous. They are very happy !
Matt Baker has to pick himself up after Friday night’s judges comments – and he does just that with the tango. Bruno says that he was arrogant and took the lead – which is a hard thing for the male celebrities to do. Craig didn’t like the look of one of the lifts but said that otherwise the routine was danced with military precision and with purpose. Len loved it. They score 38.
Gavin & Katya dance the Viennese Waltz – a dance that should suit Gavin with his strength and hold. Len points out that he does have good posture, but as Craig says, he lost timing. Bruno said he was elegant and smooth. Has he done enough ? They score 31
Pamela Stephenson has continued to shine and astonish. Tonight she dances the quickstep with James Jordan. She seems to get younger every week ! Her costume tonight is top hat and fishnet tights, later removing the jacket to reveal a pink skirt. She does a great solo tap routine, and the pair end standing back to back in a classic Hollywood pose. Len loved the feel of the dance which was a bit of a soft shoe shuffle. He said Pamela and James are a class act and brilliant. Craig only had one word for them – Fab-u-lous ! They score 40 and Pamela looks shocked.
Kara and Artem are top of the leaderboard with Gavin and Katya at the other end. Take That perform and Robbie and Mark do a little dance together – but they are not accompanied by any Strictly dancers.
The results – with a double elimination – will be announced early this evening.
