Anna Pavlova: Twentieth-Century Ballerina
By Jane Pritchard with Caroline Hamilton
A new book published as part of the Pavlova 2012 centenary celebrations
2012 marks the centenary of Anna Pavlova becoming a London resident and making Ivy House her London home (now the London Jewish Cultural Centre). The house, in Hampstead, remained her home until her death in 1931.
The book is a celebration of Pavlova’s life as an inspirational dancer, an independent career woman and mega-star, loved by the media and her audiences throughout the world. It focuses primarily on her contribution to the developing dance scene in Britain.
Dealing largely with the great ballerina’s life outside of her native Russia, the publication will feature a wide range of archival photographs and material, much of which has never been published before.
Royalties from the sale of the book will go towards the student scholarship and bursary programme at The Royal Ballet School, London.
The publication was made possible with the generous support of: Elena Heinz, The Linbury Trust, The Monument Trust, The Rothschild Foundation and Trusthouse Charitable Foundation.
Jane Pritchard is Curator of Dance at the Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A), London and curator of the critically acclaimed exhibition and accompanying book, Diaghilev and the Golden Age of the Ballets Russes 1909-1929
Caroline Hamilton is a dance and costume historian
The Royal Ballet School
The Royal Ballet School is recognised as one of the world’s greatest ballet schools. Admission is based solely on artistic merit and potential and the School prides itself in never turning away a talented student due to lack of financial means. Around 96% of students rely on financial support to attend The Royal Ballet School and where this is not met by the Department for Education, students are supported by the School’s Student Scholarship and Bursary Programme. Approximately £600,000 has to be raised annually to ensure that all students possessing the talent to train at The Royal Ballet School have the opportunity to do so. Registered Charity No: 214364
