What a curious night. The favourite to win fluffed a step in his first dance, which I’d say was generally uncharacteristic. The judges chose Danny & Oti’s Quickstep. Interviewed on It Takes Two, Darcey Bussell had said if she could go back and change anything it would be to have given them a 10 when they danced it the first time around. So here was a chance for a perfect 40 score – only for it to slip away. How Danny must be feeling. Wanting to lift the glitterball more for Oti than for himself, perhaps it’s possible to want something too much. You could see it happening. Despite making Strictly history with their tribal Samba, their show dance was so intense that you could feel the static in the air, so much was at stake.

Danny Mac was by far the best dancer throughout the series, and Oti Mabuse had in him the perfect canvas to perfect her intricate, breath-taking, brave and mesmerising choreography. Yes, he started from a way along the learning curve, and much has been made of his dance training, but he worked like a dog every day for three months and you could see the progress no matter how good the start.

Kevin Clifton has always produced innovative and interesting routines but Louise was no Kellie Bright (his partner from last year) and although beautiful and lyrical, Louise lacked the fire power needed to blast through some of Kevin’s choreography and sometimes it felt too soft. Much has been made of whether or not the finalists had previous dance training at stage school or elsewhere; it seems to me that Danny had to defend himself more often than anyone else. And it misses the point : they were invited to take part and they accepted for their own reasons.

They are all winners if they achieved what they set out to.

Ore & Joanne and Louise & Kevin danced near perfect routines and with Ore in the lead and the public vote going his way, he was crowned the winner, predictably crying too much to be able to speak.

The judges’ scores were combined with the results of the viewers’ vote to decide the two lowest scoring couples to face each other in the dance off.  This week, it was Olympic Gymnast Claudia Fragapane and her professional partner AJ Pritchard and Actor Danny Mac and his professional partner Oti Mabuse

All couples performed two routines in the semi-final and when it came to the dance-off, the two couples chose to perform one of their routines once more in a bid to impress the Judges and remain in the competition. Claudia and AJ chose their Quickstep to ‘When You’re Smiling’ by Andy Williams and Danny and Oti chose to perform their American Smooth to ‘Misty Blue’ by Dorothy Moore.

Head Judge Len Goodman said he was in agreement with his fellow judges.

Talking to Tess about her Strictly experience Claudia said, “I can’t believe I made it this far to be honest.  Everyone is so lovely and I’m just so happy that I’ve made it this far and everyone has just been incredible people, and to come out and not be as confident as I was, I feel like a different person now, all thanks to this show.”

When Tess asked if she had any words for her professional partner AJ, Claudia added, “Oh you have been absolutely amazing, you really have pushed me to the best of my ability. You have been so lovely to me and you’ve really boosted my confidence and it’s all thanks to you.”

When Tess asked if AJ had any words for Claudia, he said; “I’m just so proud of her, so proud of how far you’ve come and just how confident you are now. Thank you.”

The Sunday’s results show also featured a musical performance from Sting.

Next Saturday, the three remaining couples will return to the dancefloor to battle it out in the ballroom for the very last time in Strictly Come Dancing – The Final.

Talking to Tess about his Strictly experience Judge Rinder said; “I honestly don’t know what to say, every single person involved in this programme has so much love for it and that permeates through the screen.  It’s a joy to be here, every single person, there’s too many people to thank but I even want to thank the judges. I know how difficult it is sometimes to be a judge and you do it with authenticity and enthusiasm and thank you all for your comments.  And my last thank you and my most important one, this truly extraordinary person, this teacher who has shown me from somebody who could barely walk to music with no dance experience at all to find a passion and a love for dance and that’s the best kind of teaching.  You are never too old to try something new and everyone should try dancing, thank you so much.”

After 13 amazing weeks of glitter, excitement and sensational dance performances, the most glamorous night of TV has arrived as the Strictly Come Dancing Final comes live to BBC One.

Back in September, 15 celebrities entered the ballroom for the very first time, but now only the finalists remain. Get set for a dramatic night of dance as the couples battle it out in the ballroom for the very last time. The couples will dance three routines – their favourite, the judges’ choice, and a spectacular show-dance, in a bid to win the viewers’ votes and the 2016 Glitter Ball trophy.

Tonight the judges – Len Goodman, Darcey Bussell, Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli – will score each couple, but it is for guidance only as viewer’s votes alone will decide which couple will take home the Glitter Ball Trophy.

As well as all this, there will be spectacular group performances, magical musical moments and a host of other special surprises as the curtain comes down on another memorable series of dancefloor drama.

Talking to Tess about his Strictly experience Ed said; “If people watching have had half the fun I’ve had learning to dance with Katya then they must have had a complete blast because it’s been such a fabulous thing. The judges, all the supporters, the make-up team, the wardrobe, in particular that band are the best in the world. It’s just wonderful. But above all the only reason we have been able to learn and to entertain is because of Katya, and it’s her first series. She is going to go on to be a total dynamite, knock-out Strictly star, she is just the best there is. Absolutely amazing. She is utterly brilliant. And to all the people who have kept me in this long, thank you very much I’m very grateful, I’ve had a wonderful time.”

Daisy Lowe is the eighth celebrity to depart the dance floor in Strictly Come Dancing 2016

This weekend, Daisy Lowe became the eighth contestant to leave Strictly Come Dancing as she faced Greg Rutherford in the dreaded dance off.

The judges’ scores were combined with the results of the viewers’ vote to decide the two lowest scoring couples to face each other in the dance off. This week, that was Greg Rutherford and his professional partner Natalie Lowe and Daisy Lowe and her professional partner Aljaž Skorjanec.

Both couples performed their routines again; Greg and Natalie did their Paso Doble to ‘Tamacun’ by Rodrigo y Gabriela and Daisy and Aljaž performed their Salsa to ‘Groove Is In The Heart’ by Deee-Lite in a bid to impress the judges and remain in the competition.

After both couples had danced a second time, Tess asked the judges’ based on the dance off alone, which couple they wanted to save and their reasons for saving them.

Craig Revel Horwood chose to save Greg and Natalie and said; “Well this couple totally and absolutely nailed the dance this time round, and that couple is Greg and Natalie.”

Darcey Bussell chose to save Greg and Natalie and said; “Both couples upped their game beautifully, gave great performances making it very difficult, but the couple that had more dynamic effect, Greg and Natalie.”

Bruno Tonioli chose to save Daisy and Aljaž and said; “What a clash of titans, Venus the Goddess of Love and Mars the God of War both wonderful, but for me I kinda found the Godness of Love irresistible, Daisy and Aljaž.”

Head Judge Len Goodman had the casting vote and chose to save Greg and Natalie and said; “Well obviously because it’s a split decision that shows the closeness of this competition however I have to go with my brain not my heart and my brain tells me for a far more polished and technical performance I go with Greg and Natalie.”

Talking to Tess about her Strictly experience Daisy said; “I’ve loved every minute, everyone here is so unbelievable you have no idea! The make-up, costume, production, cameras, everyone, the judges, thank you so much for everything I’ve loved every moment. Hang on, I’ve missed one, my hero (to Aljaž), thank you for everything!”

Daisy’s professional partner, Aljaž said; “Firstly thank you, you’ve been the most joyous in rehearsals. On the weekends, you’ve taught me so much, you are the most beautiful person, inside and out, you’re a beautiful dancer and thank you for making this Strictly unforgettable for me, thank you.”

The results show also included a special Remembrance Sunday routine featuring AJ Prichard and Chloe Hewitt who told the enduring love story of 93-year old Basil and Madge Lambert, with Basil and Madge themselves joining the Professional Dancers at the end of the routine. Plus there was also a musical performance from André Rieu.

The remaining seven couples will take to the one of the most famous dancefloors in the world next week when Strictly Come Dancing heads to the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom on Saturday 19th November at 6.55pm with the results show on Sunday 20th November at 7.15pm on BBC One.

Anastacia is the sixth celebrity to depart the dance floor in Strictly Come Dancing 2016

This weekend, spiders, witches, broomsticks and ghosts invaded the Strictly ballroom for the Fright Night Halloween special – the spookiest event in the Strictly Come Dancing calendar! The ten remaining couples danced to impress the viewers at home, as well as the judges in the studio – Len Ghoulish Goodman, Darcey Bloodcurdling Bussell, Bruno Terrifying Tonioli and Craig Devil Horwood.

The judges’ scores were combined with the results of the viewers’ vote to decide the two lowest scoring couples facing the dreaded dance off. This week that was singer Anastacia and professional partner Brendan Cole and model Daisy Lowe and her partner Aljaž Škorjanec.

Both couples performed their routines again; Anastacia and Brendan danced their Jive to Bat Out Of Hell by Meat Loaf and Daisy and Aljaž danced their Paso Doble to Please Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood by Santa Esmeralda in a bid to impress the judges and remain in the competition.

After both couples had danced a second time, Tess asked the judges’ based on the dance-off alone, which couple they wanted to save and their reasons for saving them.

Craig Revel Horwood chose to save Daisy and Aljaž saying; “I’d like to save the more powerful and better dance of the night and I believe that couple is Daisy and Aljaz.”

Darcey Bussell chose to save Daisy and Aljaž saying; “It’s really tough of course when people are in the dance off and hard to make this choice but the couple I would like to save, for their dance quality and performance, is Daisy and Aljaz.”

Bruno Tonioli chose to save Daisy and Aljaž saying; “First of all I’d like to say both girls put up a fierce fight, I like that, fighters to the end, but overall I would like to choose the couple that satisfied  me with content, gave me quality of movement, power of performance – Daisy and Aljaz.”

Head Judge Len Goodman said he agreed with his colleagues and he would save Daisy and Aljaž.

When asked by Tess what her personal highlight from the show had been, Anastacia said; “I’ve really enjoyed being here. This was a place for me to get to know my ‘female’ and this place allowed me to do that; the hair, the make-up, the production, the judges gave me great comments, you (Tess) and Claudia have been amazing, the way you run this family, this family is beautiful and you (Brendan) are amazing. Thanks for everything.”

Brendan said, “This programme will miss you. I will miss you. Thank you for teaching me so much about everything and for being a fantastic partner. Thank you so much, what a great ride!”

Strictly Come Dancing: Results show also featured a performance from Laura Mvula singing ‘Ready or Not’.

The remaining nine couples will take to the dance floor next week when Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday 5th November at 6:55pm with the results show on Sunday 6th November at 7.15pm on BBC One.

Anastacia and Brendan will be joining Zoë Ball for their first exclusive televised interview live on Strictly Come Dancing – It Takes Two on Monday 31st October at 6.30pm on BBC Two.

Easily the most spectacular week on Strictly for costumes, hair and make-up, it’s always a bit trickier to be sure of the dancing! Tonight there were some uncharacteristic mistakes, notably from Danny and Ore, but also some dramatic performances.

Louise & Kevin opened the show with their “animated, comic book Charleston” (Len) which Darcey thought was “brilliant” and they scored 35.

Judge Rinder & Oksana followed that with their Paso Doble that was “born to dazzle” (Bruno) and “the strongest we’ve ever seen you” (Craig) and they scored 32.

Claudia & AJ’s American Smooth Foxtrot saw Craig commenting, “footwork was very, very good. The whole thing was dynamic.” They scored 36.

Anastacia & Brendan’s Jive was “totally batty, borderline bonkers. I love that.” (Bruno) They scored 25.

Danny & Oti’s Foxtrot to the Hozier song Take me to Church, which ballet-goers will recognise for this video, found Len “bewitched by the performance, bothered by the amount of mistakes.” They scored 30.

Laura & Giovanni’s Tango had “the look of a winner to me” (Bruno) and they scored 36 which puts them joint leaders with Claudia & AJ.

Ore & Joanne’s Charleston saw Craig commenting, “without swivel it’s not a Charleston” and they scored 32.

Greg & Natalie’s Rhumba had “plenty of drama” (Darcey), however Craig felt “it wasn’t anything that I thought was a Rhumba” and they scored 26.

Daisy & Aljaz’s Paso Doble probably scored the best make-up along with Danny & Oti, and Bruno (adored the dance.” Len thought “it was a little bit hit and miss;” Darcey said, “you’re bringing something else to your performance now” and they scored 33.

Ed & Katya rounded off the dances with their Cha Cha with Bruno described as “toxic. Addictive. Horribly fabulous.” They scored 26.

This weekend the ten remaining couples danced to impress the viewers at home, as well as the judges in the studio – Len Goodman, Darcey Bussell, Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood.

Laura Whitmore was not able to perform on Saturday night, on doctor’s orders, after sustaining an ankle injury earlier in the week. As per the rules of Strictly Come Dancing she will have a bye through to next week.

The judges’ scores were combined with the results of the viewers’ votes to decide the lowest scoring two couples facing the dance off. This week that was actress Lesley Joseph and professional partner Anton Du Beke and model Daisy Lowe and her partner Aljaž Škorjanec.

Both couples performed their routines again; Lesley and Anton danced their Tango to Whatever Lola Wants by Gotan Project and Daisy and Aljaž danced their Charleston to Happy Feet by Manhattan Rhythm Kings in a bid to impress the judges and remain in the competition.

After both couples had danced a second time the judges delivered their verdicts:

Craig chose to save Daisy and Aljaž saying; “I love both couples for completely different reasons. But for me tonight, for precision, for an improved performance in this particular Dance Off, and finishing on time, the couple I would like to save is Daisy and Aljaž.”

Darcey chose to save Daisy and Aljaž saying; “Again this is very difficult, I wouldn’t want these two couples here at all, and to choose between them is very difficult. But the couple I would like to save on their cleanness and the quality of their dance that stood out to me is Daisy and Aljaž.”

Bruno chose to save Daisy and Aljaž saying; “Well I love both of these girls for many different reasons. They’re gorgeous look at them. But I have to really choose the stronger dance on every aspect – technique and performance. And for that reason I am choosing to save Daisy and Aljaž.”

Head Judge Len Goodman stated that he agreed with his colleagues, saying; “I did agree. I would have saved Daisy and Aljaž.”

When asked by Tess what her highlight had been, Lesley said; “Learning a new dance every week has just been lovely, working with him (Anton) has been an absolute joy and we’ve laughed a lot. And yeah it’s been just a lovely lovely lovely journey and it’s come to an end and that’s absolutely fine. We’ve loved it.

Tess asked what Lesley will miss the most and Lesley said; “Him (Anton)”.

Anton said; “I would just like to say thank you very much, you enriched my whole Strictly experience this year. Dancing with you has been an absolute joy. You pushed me, I don’t know about me pushing you, you pushed me to try and be more creative and make the numbers better and that’s just down to you and you’re just an absolute joy. And I love you dearly.”

The remaining ten couples will take to the dancefloor once more next week when Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday 29th October at 6.45pm with the results show on Sunday 30th October at 7.15pm on BBC One.

Lesley and Anton will be joining Zoë Ball for their first exclusive televised interview live on Strictly Come Dancing – It Takes Two on Monday 24th October at 6.30pm on BBC Two.
