The National Ballet of Canada | Grey Cup Champions Debut in The Nutcracker

Toronto Argonauts Mike Bradwell and Jason Pottinger are Cannon Dolls

Cannon Dolls Luminaries Include Canada’s Minister of Finance Jim Flaherty, NDP Leader Andrea Horwath and CBC Radio’s Metro Morning Host Matt Galloway

Toronto Argonauts and 100th Grey Cup champions Mike Bradwell and Jason Pottinger make their debut as Cannon Dolls in The National Ballet of Canada’s The Nutcracker at the “Share the Magic” dress rehearsal on December 19, 2012 at 1:00 pm at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. “Share the Magic” is a free performance hosted by the National Ballet for over 1,500 Toronto children and their families who otherwise wouldn’t be able to attend a live performance.

Also making their debuts with The National Ballet of Canada as Cannon Dolls in The Nutcracker are Canada’s Minister of Finance Jim Flaherty with Christine Elliott, MPP for Whitby-Oshawa, Ontario’s New Democratic Party Leader Andrea Horwath and Toronto City Councillor Karen Stintz, as well as anchors of TSN’s SportsCentre, Jay Onrait and Dan O’Toole. See below for the complete lineup.

The opening performance on December 19 at 7:00 pm will feature CBC Radio’s Metro Morning Host Matt Galloway. He will appear with the Sounds of the Season auction winner who successfully bid on this opportunity to appear onstage in The Nutcracker. Sounds of the Season is the CBC’s annual fundraiser in support of local food banks.

The National Ballet of Canada invites the public to enter a contest to win a spot as a Cannon Doll in The Nutcracker on December 27 at 5:30 pm. Click here for contest details.

Celebrity walk-on roles are a long-held tradition with Nutcrackers all over the world. In the National Ballet’s production, the Cannon Dolls guest roles are colourfully costumed Russian Petrouchka dolls who shoot a cannon into the audience to begin the battle scene in Act I. Toronto luminaries have performed these coveted roles including Rick Mercer, Mats Sundin, Doug Gilmour, Kurt Browning and Margaret Atwood.
