The National Ballet of Canada | Principal Casting Announced for Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

ballet canadaKaren Kain, Artistic Director of The National Ballet of Canada, today announced the principal casting for Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, the most highly anticipated production of the season. Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is currently on tour to Los Angeles’ Music Center October 19 – 21, 2012 and returns to Toronto to open the 2012/13 season at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts with 16 shows only, November 10 – 25, 2012.

Reprising their role as Alice are Principal Dancers Heather Ogden, Sonia Rodriguez and Jillian Vanstone and making her debut in the role is First Soloist Elena Lobsanova. Jack/The Knave of Hearts will once again be performed by First Soloists Keiichi Hirano and McGee Maddox and making their debuts in the role are Principal Dancer Guillaume Côté and First Soloist Naoya Ebe. The role of Lewis Carroll/The White Rabbit will be reprised by Principal Dancers Aleksandar Antonijevic and Piotr Stanczyk with  First Soloist Robert Stephen and Corps de Ballet member Dylan Tedaldi making debuts in the role. Principal Dancer Greta Hodgkinson will dance the role of Mother/The Queen of Hearts and making their debuts in the role are Principal Dancer Xiao Nan Yu, First Soloist Stephanie Hutchison and Second Soloist Chelsy Meiss.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Christopher Wheeldon combines Lewis Carroll’s classic children’s narrative with an energetic and riveting score by British composer Joby Talbot with spectacular sets and costumes by Tony Award-winning designer Bob Crowley and lighting by Natasha Katz.

A co-production with England’s Royal Ballet, the work was a smash hit on both sides of the Atlantic when it premiered in 2011, performing to sold-out houses and enthralling audiences after show.

Ballet Master Lindsay Fischer will give the Ballet Talk for Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland at the opening night pre-show. Ballet Talks take place 45 minutes prior to the curtain.
