The National Ballet of Canada | The Nutcracker Opens December 19

December 7, 2012… Karen Kain, Artistic Director of The National Ballet of Canada, today announced the principal casting for The Nutcracker. Toronto’s magical holiday tradition is onstage at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto December 19, 2012 – January 5, 2013.

The opening night performance on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at 7:00 pm will feature Principal Dancers Heather Ogden and Guillaume Côté in the roles of the Sugar Plum Fairy and Peter/The Nutcracker. Principal Dancer Xiao Nan Yu will dance the role of the Snow Queen, Second Soloist Alejandra Perez-Gomez will perform the role of Baba and Principal Dancer Jiří Jelinek will dance the role of Uncle Nikolai.

Tickets are selling quickly with the first 7 performances already sold out. The best availability for remaining shows is December 27, 2012 – January 5, 2013.

Set in 19th-century Russia, this cherished classic takes audiences on a magical journey through the glittering world of the Snow Queen to the opulent splendour of the Sugar Plum Fairy’s palace.

The Nutcracker choreography and libretto are by James Kudelka, music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, set and costume design by Santo Loquasto and lighting design by Jennifer Tipton.

Nutcracker Story Time begins 45 minutes prior to every performance in the Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre of the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts.
