The National Ballet of Canada’s Outreach Programme YOU dance Visits Thunder Bay and North Bay

April 10, 2012… The National Ballet of Canada’s outreach programme YOU dance visits Thunder Bay, April 17 – 19, 2012 and North Bay, May 7 – 11, 2012. YOU dance is the National Ballet’s highly successful outreach programme that introduces students in grades four to six to the world of dance through free workshops and performances. Since its inception in 2007, YOU dance has performed for over 48,000 students and teachers in Ontario, free of charge.

Thunder Bay, April 17 – 19, 2012

Schools in the Thunder Bay area will participate in specially designed movement workshops in their schools and then attend a one-hour performance at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium, April 18 & 19, accompanied by the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra.

A FREE Master Class lead by Artistic Director of YOU dance Lindsay Fischer will be available for dancers at an elementary/intermediate level and over the age of 14 on Wednesday, April 18 at 6:00 pm at the International Dance Academy.

national ballet of canadaYOU dance will give a free performance at the Superior Collegiate & Vocational Institute on Tuesday, April 17 at 7:00 pm. The Apprentices from the National Ballet will perform a programme of classical and contemporary works, including excerpts from Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty and Don Quixote. Grade 7 and 8 students from École Gron Morgan Public School will perform a work they have created with a visiting National Ballet Artist Educator.

Tickets are available weekdays, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm, from April 2 through to the show date at the office at Superior Collegiate & Vocational Institute

North Bay, May 7 – 11, 2012

Schools in the North Bay area will also participate in the specially designed movement workshops in their schools and then attend a one-hour performance at Widdifield Secondary School, May 8 – 11.

YOU dance will give a free performance at Widdifield Secondary School on Thursday, May 10 at 7:00 pm. The programme will feature a mix of classical and contemporary works, including excerpts from Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty and Don Quixote. Grades 9 – 12 students from Widdifield Secondary School will perform a work they have created with a visiting National Ballet Artist Educator.
