Thanks for this. The return of Mayerling makes me a very happy bunny. Any chance you might have the Opera line up as well?TTC

TTC : Thank you for your comments. I think we'll be able to have an interesting conversation about Mayerling, looking at the casting :Kobborg|Cojocaru|Morera Watson|Galeazzi|Lamb Pennefather*|Hamilton*|Nunez*Acosta|Benjamin|GalaezziSoares*|Cuthbertson*|Ansanelli* marks a debut in the roleIt raises the question of why Tamara Rojo is missing.I'll be interested to hear what you make of Pennefather's debut & the casting in general. Certainly I think Hamilton will make the most of her debut and I wouldn't be at all surprised to find her promoted before then. The Soares casting is interesting – I'm not sure I'd have paired him with Cuthbertson. Such a shame he's not cast with Nunez. The current policy of casting debutantes with experienced dancers in the role doesn't appear to be consistent here and presumably there is another reason for Soares and Nunez being cast seperately, (certainly not box office receipts !).

Thanks very much. “Tsarina’s Slippers” is an exciting novelty, even more so with the Royal Ballet on the Bill. Is McGregor directing or are they branching out a little? (There’s already perhaps a little too much McGregor on the ballet bill for my tastes). Doesn’t look like an overly interesting Opera season otherwise though, I’m sure the casting will be impressive when they announce on Wednesday.Hmmm, not sure about the Mayerling casting. The Kobborg/Cojocaru cast I’ll definitely try and see but I’m a little disappointed Watson isn’t paired with Benjamin (Acosta was paired with Benjamin at the last revival and I didn’t think it worked terribly well). They’re my two favourite MacMillan dancers and (as you’ve probably realised) I have reservations about Acosta in this ballet, Galeazzi is solid enough though. The Pennefather cast should be interesting, isn’t Hamilton still an artist? This is quite the coup for her (they’ve got to at least promote her to Soloist I would think). Not sure about the Soares cast. Cuthbertson doesn’t strike me as ideal Vetsera material, although I’m often surprised by her, and I’ve yet to be impressed by Ansanelli outside of the odd Balanchine performance. I’m not sure I’ve seen Soares dance with Cuthbertson but I’m happy to see them mix it up a bit. You never know what sparks might fly.TTC
